Used EV Stock for Dealers: Appraisal and Retail Preparation
A dealer workflow for assessing used EVs, explaining battery information and preparing electrified stock for retail buyers.
Used EVs are becoming a more visible part of Australian dealership stock. Recent AADA and AutoGrab data reported growth in used EV and plug-in hybrid sales while the broader used market softened. That does not make every EV an easy buy, but it does justify a more disciplined appraisal process.
Record the information a buyer will ask for
Capture battery or vehicle-health information available from an approved source, charging equipment, warranty position, service history, software status, accident repairs and included accessories. Do not invent a battery-health percentage or imply a test was completed when it was not.
Check practical usability
Confirm the vehicle starts correctly, charging equipment is present, warning lights are absent or documented, and the handover team can explain the basic charging process. A buyer’s confidence can depend as much on explanation as on the vehicle itself.
Price against local alternatives
Compare similar EVs by age, range, battery information, warranty and equipment rather than relying on fuel type alone. Include preparation, transport, charging equipment and expected holding time in the buying calculation.
Train the sales process
Sales staff should be able to answer basic questions without overstating range, battery life, charging speed or future value. Create a short approved briefing for each model family and escalate technical questions to a qualified person.
The AADA data is a market signal, not a promise about a specific vehicle. Review current local evidence and manufacturer information before changing stock policy.
